eight months

In this latest installment of Daph's monthly pics we are shooting in her new room! The fact that she has had three different homes in her short life (4 if you count a month stay at Aunt Katie's, which in a 9 month life is a big chunk!) says a lot. I am happy to report that she is the happiest little thing and seems to be thriving despite all the changes we've weathered. This photo is as late as all the others, taken just a few days before the 9 month mark.

Baby teeth look a little goofy!
Today we saw the doctor for her 9 month well baby visit and she is a well baby, indeed. Our only concern is her teary eye, which while gross has scored her a sweet nickname. The doc thinks she will probably grow out of it but will keep an eye on it, pun intended. She is hitting all the other milestones and he got a good chuckle out of her preferred crawling gait, the kickstand method in which she walks on the left foot and drags the right leg. Whatever works! She is slowly gaining back some footing in the percentiles and is right around 45% for weight (17 lbs, 9 oz) and height (27.5").

She is really keeping us entertained lately with her babbles, huge smiles and the quirky little habits she develops and abandons rapidly. Today it was a weird ape-like pounding of her chest. She has also become a bit more snuggly lately which I love. And this week bedtime has been a breeze; she just casts her bottle aside and tries to wriggle off my lap, much to Brett's dismay because he is really into the Curious George anthology we are reading at bedtime, but when she's ready she's ready and we stop mid-sentence and pop her in bed.

If you look closely in the picture, you can see a top tooth! She has two bottom ones as well and another just breaking through on the top row. Sleep was rough for a couple of weeks but we're back to normal now.

Eating is slowly improving. Right now some faves are avocado, almond butter sandwiches in tiny pieces, yogurt, scrambled eggs, hummus and watermelon.

Daphne has been doing great with outings this month. We took a fun trip to Ikea and out to lunch with Grammie and she was perfect. She now loves to ride in the shopping cart seat which is a welcome upgrade from the car seat awkwardly plunked in the cart.

Other fun favorites are chasing Gertie and sitting on her bed, playing with cousin Owen, her baby pool, the crawl tunnel and shaking rattle blocks. She also seems to love music and being flipped upside down, which is also the best method for getting a good look at her teeth!
